Today, unemployment in Wake County is at 9+ percent, so we must do everything we can to help increase jobs and grow our tax base in Morrisville to keep tax rates low. Our town must always focus on revenue that we do not have today, and aggressive recruitment of companies to Morrisville is imperative in our ability to generate this revenue.
We have all of the key ingredients for continued economic success for our Town, proximity to the airport, a well educated workforce, and a very diverse community.
A great way for us to recruit global companies is to leverage on the tremendous diversity in our Town. Indian companies are investing billions in the United Sates to start US operations, similar to what Cary has done in bringing in HCL, a $5 billion Indian IT Services company. Essel Propack, headquartered in Mumbai, India opened a $20 million manufacturing facility in Daville, Virginia in 2007. The Town of Morrisville needs to work with Wake County Economic Development and North Carolina Commerce Department to make sure that we are recruiting global companies to our town.
