Transportation Solution for Morrisville

On Tuesday, I addressed the Wake County Commissioners, sharing with them my concern that our region needs to have transit on the ballot as a viable transportation solution. Such a solution will create jobs, enhance our economic competitiveness against other innovation regions like Boston and Silicon Valley, and also take traffic off our ever increasing congested roads.

I also made the case for our Ice and Sports training facility to be selected as the Hotel Occupancy Tax Project.

I encouraged each Commissioner to visit Morrisville in the AM or at 5 PM in the evening to see for themselves how unbearable our traffic has become. The Heart of the Triangle is on the verge of having a Heart Attack with all transportation veins and arteries in our Town congested and blocked.

Finally, I reminded the Board; that Morrisville has invested in planning the McCrimmon Transit Oriented Development Plan, a vision which includes workforce housing, walkable communities, all around a central transit station. TOD development has the potential of $300 million of tax revenue potential versus only $120 million if we did not do TOD development. Congrats to our staff for receiving National recognition from the National Planning Association for theTOD Plan.

Now is the time for transit. Let’s come up with a final plan and move this train forward!
