Morrisville Rotary Club visit to Camp High Hopes

Today, our Rotary meeting was held at West Cary Middle School, and was hosted by John Collins at the YMCA, who hosts the Camp High Hopes Camp for at risk youth at the Middle School.

This camp is a part of the We Build People Annual Campaign, and is focused on providing a wonderful camp experience to students at Adams Elementary, Reedy Creek Elementary, Mills Park Elementary, and Reedy Creek Middle.   The We Build Campaign provides fully subsidized camps to children in need of these programs and these efforts help develop these children so they can reach their full potential.

Camp High Hopes is a summer camp program that provides the perfect outlet for youthful energy in a structured setting that fosters academic learning and social skill development. More than 1,357 low-income children will enjoy activities, hot meals and transportation because of the money raised in this program.

During the lunch hour, the Youth camp leaders were able to showcase the activities and how engaged the kids were through this program.

At the end of the day, I was so excited to see this type of work being done in our community, and I still would like to see the YMCA working with our MAFC facility in some type of partnership or even if we can get this type of program offered by facilities or schools in Morrisiville.
