Morning in Capitol Hill

I spent yesterday morning on Capitol Hill, with visits with Congressman Mike Honda, one of my friends and a Congressman from Silicon Valley and David Price, my good friend and our 4th District Congressman.  Congressman Honda was one of the first Asian Americans elected to the US Congress and he has always been supportive of my intent to serve in public office.

He and I discussed the progress the Triangle is making in our economic growth and provided me the Annual Report on Best Performing Cities, with Cary/Raleigh, jumping ten spots from last year to number three.    Our Legislature needs to realize that our state has been running well and we need to make sure we invest in what made us great, K-12 education and Higher Education.   (I will add this report to the site this week)  San Jose/Silicon Valley was ranked number one.

We also discussed comprehensive immigration reform and I shared with him, that I am getting many consituent requests, from immigrants, who are not able to receive their green cards, folks who are in innovative fields, STEM industries.   Congressman Honda will try to visit the RTP in the next few months and he would encourage any constituents to speak up on Immigration Reform by addressing our Congressional Delegation.

My morning ended with a visit with David Price, and we spent time discussing the immigration reform bill, and I shared with him some of the stories of biotech companies, who are being hurt by the Sequester and cuts to federal research.     These cuts are havinfg a negative effect on the economy.

It was wonderful to be on the Hill and I do hope I can come back!
