Remembering Alok Sharma

It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that our community mourns the loss of Alok Sharma, the youngest son of Dr. GD and Saroj Sharma, founders of the Hindu Society of North Carolina. He passed away on May 29, 2015.

Our community is in shock, and what tears me up, is that I never ever just stopped and thanked him for his big heart, and how much he truly loved to see others around him make the most out of life.

Not only did Alok serve as a Senior Executive at Thales, a global E-Security company, and as a dedicated son, husband, father, and brother, but he spent countless hours on a number of community activities: the Morrisville Community Foundation, a volunteer to the East Meets West Festival, Chairman of the North Carolina Indian Political Action Committee, and Past President of the Hindu Society of North Carolina.

In my role on the Council, and in the community, he was always there to cheer me on, encourage me and of course, let me know where I could improve and get better. He did this as a friend and brother to everyone in his life, and I cannot even imagine what Morrisville and the Triangle area will be like without his infectious smile, laugh, and overall good nature.

My prayers and thoughts to the entire Sharma family to his wife Subhashini, his children Priya and Rishi and to his brothers and sisters.

Let us honor him by making the most out of our lives, and doing what we can to serve our community. As long as we keep him in our hearts, his legacy will live on for future generations as a model citizen, and as in the words of former North Carolina Governor Jim Hunt, “one of North Carolina’s finest”.

Rest in Peace my friend.
